Rheostats have been used in the electrical and electronics industries since the 1920’s and still have a place in modern engineering. The rheostat has the following benefits:

  • ability to vary and control electrical resistance at relatively high power ratings
  • available as an ‘off the shelf’ (short lead time) device
  • quickly and easily mounted
  • rugged, ‘tried and tested’ design
  • ease of termination of wiring

We currently manufacture our rheostat range in the following wattages;

  • 25 watt
  • 50 watt
  • 150 watt
  • 300 watt
  • 500 watt

Rheostat Specifications:

The ‘APR’ series has been manufactured in Australia for well over 50 years and has a reputation for offering the highest levels of reliability, both electrically and mechanically. It is ruggedly constructed and offers very compact construction. Specifications include:

  • resistance tolerance of +-10%
  • insulation resistance 100 M ohm / dc 500v
  • dielectric strength 1000 Vac / 1 minute minimum
  • mechanical rotation life 10,000 turns minimum
  • mechanical rotation angle 290 +-5 degrees

Applications For Rheostats

The APR series rheostats have been used in literally hundreds of including;

  • motor control – a.c. and d.c.
  • lighting control circuitry
  • laboratory test equipment
  • battery testers
  • portable power supplies
  • heating control circuits
